Do you need some illuminating tips on picking out a chandelier for your home? You should think about the following guidelines when shopping for a fixture that will fit in with the style of your home and the proportions of the room it will be installed in.

Diameter of Your Chandelier: How to Measure

There is a general rule of thumb that may help you choose the right size chandelier for most spaces when you go shopping for one:

In order to determine the diameter and width of the chandelier, we multiply the length and width of the room in feet (in inches).

If you stick to this rule of thumb, the size of your nordic chandelier won’t seem out of proportion with the room. There’s no doubting that this rule may be helpful when trying to choose a floor size, however I personally think it’s best employed as a suggestion rather than a hard and fast rule.

If the lighting fixture you want to install will be focused on a particular location rather than the whole room, its dimensions should reflect that. You may alternatively calculate this by adding the distance the light will be from the two walls that is closest to it, and then twice that figure to get an estimated measurement of the diameter of the chandelier in inches.

Where to Go for Guidance on Choosing the Right Size Chandelier

Choose the height of the fixture once you have settled on its width and diameter. You’re not thinking about the fixture’s height in relation to the floor right now; rather, you’re thinking about the fixture’s height and depth.

  • Chandelier height is typically calculated by multiplying the ceiling height in feet by a factor of 2.50 to 3. This will provide you with a respectable selection (in inches) for the light’s vertical proportions.
  • With an 8-foot ceiling, a suitable chandelier height would be 20 to 24 inches.
  • Ceiling heights of 25 to 30 inches are suggested for rooms with 10-foot ceilings. When converting from centimetres to inches, the range is 25-30 inches. The higher the room, the more space you have to err on the high side of that figure.

Chandeliers should be hung at least 6 feet 6 inches above the floor if you care about people not bashing their heads on them. Nobody will accidentally walk into it now. Most rooms with ceilings higher than 8 feet benefit from furniture placed at a standard height of 7 feet above the floor.
